You know how a while back Traci and I were wondering why we haven’t seen any snakes during our runs along Garter Snake Alley?
Well, it turns out local naturalists haven’t been seeing many snakes, either, according to Bob’s newspaper story that ran Friday. They say not only have snakes been staying out of the extreme heat this summer, but the drought may have drastically reduced their food supply and thus their numbers.
A surprising factoid from that same story: Turns out that garter snakes typically forage 10-20 acres in search of food. Which seems like a lot of territory to cover when you’re crawling on your belly.
