How to squeeze in a run on a busy day

I HATE starting a day so overly scheduled that you already know, before it’s begun, that there’s no time for a run.

Or is there? Maybe there’s not enough time for the run you were planning to do, or would like to do.

But if you’ve got even a few minutes before it’s time to hit the shower and get going, try this:

Start the stopwatch on your cell phone (or runner’s watch, if you have one) and take off down the road for exactly half as many minutes as you’ve got before you need to hop in the shower.

On Sunday, I had 10 minutes to work with, and somebody else was already in the shower anyway. So I ran as far as I could for 5 minutes at a steady but not too slow pace, then turned around and picked it up, knowing I had a deadline.

It wasn’t much of a run. But I felt better all day having done something rather than nothing.

One of the things on yesterday's agenda: Watching our 17-year-old pitch against Manchester University. He gave up 1 run in three innings against the school his big sister just graduated from.
