When our college student daughter sent us this recipe she found on Happy Herbivore, I was dubious. How could such a simple recipe, containing no sweeteners, taste like an oatmeal cookie? But it’s true. It really does.
Here’s the slightly amended recipe we used, which omits the cardamon and doubles the cinnamon and raisins to account for the unsweetened almond milk:
- 2 whole bananas (frozen)
- ¼ cup rolled oats
- ¼ cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1 t. cinnamon
- 2 tbsp raisins
Dump all ingredients in blender and drink up! Three words of caution, however:
1. This only makes about a cup of smoothie, so if you’re sharing you might want to make more.
2. This batch contains around 350 calories. So while it’s healthier than an oatmeal cookie in that it contains no added sugar and very little fat, it’s not exactly low-calorie.
3. Wash the blender and any cups you’re using right away or you will regret it, as this stuff leaves a tough-to-remove residue once it hardens.
350 calories in a cup!!! Of SMOOTIE?! Holy man, put that in a squeeze pouch, that’d be fantastic on a ride!
Now there’s an idea …. I’m not crazy about gels but this one would sure work for me.
Could be lunch. 🙂
It could indeed. Usually I prefer to chew rather than drink my calories, but this one won me over.
