We had a great time Sunday hiking up Chimney Tops trail in the Great Smoky Mountains, where we’re celebrating my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. (My brother and nephews will be really upset they didn’t arrive in time to do this hike, but Chimney Tops is only open on the weekends this summer as they’re refurbishing the trail during the week.)

Hope everyone has a fantastic Fourth of July — do something active but safe — and we’ll see you back here next week.

Lately we've been joking that I'm Colleen's "pack animal" on runs, and that was true on this hike as well, when I wound up carrying her overloaded camelback for her.

We haven't been here in the middle of summer before, and I have to say this hike was much steamier and humid than the fall weather we're used to!

Mason, Madison and Ben at the summit. (It creeps me out to see them climbing over the rocks up there, so I decided not to watch.)
