Jen’s Diet Bet career takes off

Remember my friend Jen, who won her first diet bet a couple of weeks ago? Well, as of yesterday she’s 4 for 4.

Jen's turning 20 pounds of fat into a Fitbit One and a donation to the Fort Wayne Dance Collective. How cool is that?

Jen’s converting 20 pounds of fat into a Fitbit One tracking device and a donation to the Fort Wayne Dance Collective. How cool is that?

She’s nearly 20 pounds lighter — and has turned $80 worth of bets into $138.61, not counting the contest that ended yesterday. (She’s also donated some of her winnings to charity; I’m not sure whether that’s included in this amount.)

Jen’s been following a pretty strict anti-allergenic diet, jettisoning all kinds of foods that give her difficulties. In her case, that means no dairy, no sugar, no yeast, no gluten, and nothing cultured or fermented. (And I’m probably leaving a couple other things out; it’s a lengthy list.) “What’s left is basically vegetables with some meat and fish,” she said.

While that’s been frustrating at times — and while it’s getting harder to lose 4 percent of her weight, the amount required for each bet — she’s thrilled with her budding career as a professional weight loss artist.

“I’m healthier, happier, and have made enough money for a FitBit One, which is a nice perk,” she wrote last night.
