So I finally talked my sister into going for her first run since well before Christmas, and when I pulled up to our designated meeting spot, it turned out my niece Madison had come along as well.
Madison hasn’t really done any running since the 1-mile Swiss Days kids race a few years ago. But as an eighth-grade swimmer who specializes in distance events, we figured she wouldn’t have much trouble going for an easy 3-mile jog, and she didn’t. She stopped to walk twice, just briefly, and complained about a side ache at one point, but in general she kept up with us pretty well.
Here’s another cool thing: Madison says she’ll do a swimming leg if we put together a team for that indoor triathlon coming up in North Manchester, and Traci agreed to do a cycling leg. So if we line up a couple of others — Dad, Ben, and my nephew Mason come to mind — we could have two teams. Which would be awesome, since I haven’t been in a pool since early December.
