Top 3 sources of inspiration from 2012

1. Before heading out into the howling snow for yesterday’s run, I re-read “The days that make you strong,” a riveting piece of writing by a tough-as-nails blogger called Sweaty Kid, then based in Alaska.

That post, written by somebody young enough to be my daughter, stuck with me ever since I read it back in March. Here are two other blog posts that I found particularly inspiring, and returned to again and again, this year:

2.  “You can’t have what I have.”

Fit Recovery, a cyclist based in Michigan, blasts whiners who believe there’s some special unattainable something that fit people possess that fat people don’t.

“The truth is a little harsher but at least it’s simple: You can’t have what someone else has unless you’re willing to do what they did to get it,” he writes, noting that he’s “only a few weeks off and several quarts of Ben & Jerry’s away from my 195 pound days, just like everyone else. That’s just how it works.”

3. “Never, Ever Give Up: Arthur’s inspirational transformation”

I don’t know how to describe this video any more than Sandra, the person whose blog I found it on, who simply noted that it made her cry. All I know is, watching this guy’s transformation via yoga from an obese disabled veteran to someone who can run and do headstands is a great antidote to the mindset described in No. 2.

Thank you for reblogging his story. He is such an inspiration, one of those people I would like to meet some day!
