Pat Richardson’s report from New Zealand

When we last heard from Pat Richardson, she was heading off to Auckland, New Zealand, to compete in the World Age Group Sprint Triathlon Championship.

Turns out she finished 6th in her age group (65-69) and 2nd among the Americans competing with a time of 1:56:08.

Here’s what she had to say about the race:

“The swim was in the Tasman Sea, so very cold and rough.  The further out you went, the bigger the waves got.  I got out of the water in 20 minutes, which was 4th in my age group.

“The bike was also tough…very hilly and when we turned to come back, we had a strong head wind.  I was 7th in my age group after the bike.

“The run was great (always my favorite part).  Passed a bunch of people and ended up 4th on the run, but w/ the poor bike ended up 6th in my age group, 2nd USA.  I really need to work on my bike this winter.

“Anyway…after the race, we flew down to Christchurch, rented a car and made a big loop on the South Island.  Did some kayaking and hiking, which was spectacular.  Long travel home w/ 36 hours including some long layovers. … It’s taken about a week to feel normal again, but worth it all.  A great adventure!”
