The Platonic Metabolism Monitor

What if human beings came equipped with a gauge that monitored metabolism?

If I were designing it, I wouldn’t put any numbers on it at all — just a thick red line indicating the point of equilibrium between consumption and combustion.

Go one notch under for the day — just a single calorie — and you’re in weight-loss mode.

Go one notch over — again, just a single calorie — and you’re in weight-gain mode.

Your job is to make sure that arrow stays at or below the red line.

That’s it. That’s really all it takes — the difference between maintaining a healthy weight and succumbing to weight creep.
